I have a new design for this site, this time sticking to minimalist design (which by the way is more work than it seems). Following are not design principles per se, but a few design guidelines for minimalist web design:

• Avoid background colours
• Avoid images
• Avoid borders and hard dividers (hr)
• Avoid too many different fonts
• Avoid a large color palette
• Avoid information overload (each page/screen serves a singular purpose)
• Avoid more than three levels of nesting (navigation/breadcrumbs, lists, h1/h2/h3)
• Use plenty of white space (margins, padding)
